Dear Parents and Educators,

Welcome to ASLPreschool home page! The purpose of this page is simple. Our goal is to provide an instructional ASL program for adults and preschool children to learn and use ASL together. This is not a complete course in ASL. We have provided vocabulary and information specifically geared toward parents and teachers of preschool aged deaf children.

Why ASL?

In most respects ASL is just like any given spoken language, with rich vocabulary, and an organized and rule based grammar. The difference is that ASL is processed through the eyes rather than the ears. This makes sense knowing what the hearing impaired child lacks - full access to spoken language because of their hearing loss. So why would we dwell on what we know is lacking? We shouldn’t. Our goal is to put the focus on what every child and certainly even a child with a hearing loss, is capable of accomplishing. We know that children are inherently capable of developing language.
